UPDATE FROM FREEWAY’S FOSTER HOME 8/11:
Pictures do not do this darling dog justice — he is absolutely adorable!
Having fostered Freeway for over 1 month, I can honestly say he is perfect — gentle, loving, smart, entertaining, loyal, and housebroken, with no issues such as excessive barking, destructiveness, hyperactivity, etc. While initially timid with certain new experiences and people, he warms up very quickly and is an affectionate and relaxed companion. Freeway has reacted well to most people. His exposure to cats and other dogs has been limited but each time he demonstrated interest/curiosity but not aggression. He prefers not to be crated and can be trusted to roam freely indoors where he has shown himself to be an alert watchdog. Because he is intelligent and very eager to please, he is easily trainable, despite the characteristic bulldog stubbornness, and has mastered several commands, and manners, during his stay in foster care.
Whoever is fortunate enough to adopt Freeway will instantly have a lovable, loyal, amusing and easy-going companion, who is ready to follow you anywhere or be content to lie at your feet.
You wouldn’t know it from his smiling face now but this sweet boy has quite a sad story to tell. Freeway is a 5 year-old Bulldog mix who got his name after being found on the exit ramp of a local freeway about a month ago. We don’t know how he got there but he was with another dog who had been hit by a truck. She was lying on the side of the road and Freeway was sitting with her and wouldn’t leave her side until help came. When the dog warden arrived, Freeway was taken out of harm’s way and his canine pal was taken to a vet clinic. She had a broken back and unfortunately had to be euthanized. Freeway went to the dog shelter but wasn’t claimed so made the trip to Canine Lifeline so he would get lots of TLC in a foster home and be able to take his time finding a great new home. Freeway has been a wonderful guest in his foster home. He is friendly with all other dogs that he meets including puppies and loves to shower his human friends with lots of hugs and kisses. He’s a big, beefy guy who can look quite intimidating at first, but he is just a big softie. Freeway has excellent crate manners and is likely to be housetrained too although we can’t guarantee that he won’t have accidents in a new home at first. He loves to go for walks but pulls hard on the leash so would do well with an EZ-Walk harness while he works on his leash manners. Having been through a rough time recently, Freeway deserves the very best life a dog can have going forward. Freeway weighs about 68 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in Freeway. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
