Lady is a gorgeous 6 year-old Aussie who was surrendered to a shelter by her family who was moving and didn’t want to take her with them. She was terrified at the shelter so made the trip to Canine Lifeline so she could relax in a foster home while she regrouped and worked on finding a permanent new home. Lady had been a farm dog all of her life and didn’t receive the veterinary care that she deserved as she tested positive for heartworms upon her arrival here with us. While it was sad for Lady to lose her family, it was also a lucky break for her as she would have died a slow and painful death from heart failure as a result of undiagnosed heartworm disease. Thanks to our “Have a Heart” donors, Lady has received the lifesaving treatment that she needed and is now ready to make a fresh start with a new family. Lady adjusted very well to the crate-rest that accompanies recuperation from heartworm treatment. She has gotten along well with other dogs of all sizes in her foster home but is reported to have a high prey drive with small animals as well as cats so will need a kitty-free home. Apparently, she was quite successful at keeping all the critters at bay on the farm. As you can imagine, Lady has had to learn many new things since leaving the only home she had ever known and can be quite fearful in new situations. She was very afraid of the camera during her photo session. Lady would not do well living in an urban environment and would likely have difficulty adjusting to a busy suburban setting too. She would feel most comfortable in a home in a rural area with a secure aboveground fenced yard to keep her safe at home. Lady had never been on a leash before coming to us and is still frightened of that. She’s a very sweet and affectionate dog once she feels comfortable with someone but is going to require a kind and very patient family to help her adjust to her new surroundings. She would benefit from having a calm canine pal in her new home that she can shadow. Lady weighs about 42 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email email@example.com if you’re interested in Lady. An approved application is required before we set up meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have little to no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
Lady’s heartworm treatment cost about $750. If you’d like to make a donation to help with her care so that we may save another dog in the future, please do so on our website at www.caninelifeline.org or by sending a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125. Thank you from Lady and Canine Lifeline!
