We just love this boy! Newton is a 3 year-old all-American mutt who is an all-around great dog. We have no idea on his breed mix but he’s got a long body with shorter legs so might have some Basset in the mix. The rest is anyone’s guess but could include something like Jack Russell Terrier. He’s a dog who could use a DNA test for sure! Newton came to us from an overcrowded rural county shelter in KY. The shelter volunteer who alerted us to him called him a KPD. We had no idea what she was talking about but we soon learned that KPD means ‘Kentucky Porch Dog’ of course! This boy showed up at someone’s house and made himself at home on their porch. No owner was located so Newton ended up at the shelter and from there made the trip to Canine Lifeline to find a new home. Newton’s plans for a new family were put on hold for a couple of months after he tested positive for heartworms once here with us. He has now been through treatment and done very well so is ready to begin the next chapter of his life. In spite of having been homeless and having had to go through heartworm treatment, Newton is a kind, loving, and very attentive dog. He’s not letting his past get him down and is ready to make the most of the second chance he’s been given. He gets along great with other dogs and loves playing with them so would probably enjoy sharing his home with a canine pal or two. Newton is also very friendly with people and is a very affectionate dog once he’s comfortable with someone. He has excellent crate manners so is likely to pick up the housetraining rules quickly in his new home. This delightful and charming guy is going to make an outstanding companion for one very lucky person or family. Newton weighs about 30 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Newton. An approved application is required before we set up meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Please visit our website at to see more photos of Newton and to submit an online application.

Newton’s heartworm treatment cost about $750. If you’d like to make a donation to help with his care so that we may save another dog in the future, please do so on our website at or by sending a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125. Thank you from Newton and Canine Lifeline!
