Palmer is a very friendly and outgoing 1 year-old Golden Retriever mix male with a short coat who was found tied to the fence at a rural county dog shelter one morning. He had a badly injured leg so was immediately take to a local vet where the huge gash in his side and leg was stitched up. Amazingly, x-rays showed no broken bones so when Palmer was cleared for travel, he made the trip to Canine Lifeline for follow-up vet care and lots of TLC in a foster home. Unfortunately, Palmer had suffered serious nerve damage in that leg as a result of whatever accident he had encountered—likely hit by car. He had a lot of difficulty dragging that useless leg behind him so our vet advised that amputation would be the best course for him. Now that Palmer is about 2-3 weeks post-amputation, he is doing so much better. He gets around much easier without that damaged leg and is ready to start looking for a permanent new home. Palmer has done well with the other dogs in his foster home but can be protective of his food around them so may enjoy being the only dog in his new home. He’s very affectionate and friendly with people and loves to cuddle with his friends. Palmer walks nicely on a leash and will benefit from lots of walks around the block as he gets used to maneuvering on three legs.  He also has excellent crate manners and is likely housetrained too although we can’t guarantee it. He is a camera shy boy who is much more handsome in person with his beautiful red coat and big brown eyes. Most of his pics were taken shortly after his arrival and before his leg was amputated. The pic showing the amputation was taken about 2.5 weeks after surgery. Palmer weighs about 42 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Palmer. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Palmer’s medical care cost about $750 so if you’d like to make a donation to our medical fund so that we may help another dog like Palmer in the future, you may do so by clicking the DONATE button on our website at or mailing a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125.
