Whoever coined the phrase “cute as a bug’s ear” would have to agree that Phoenix more than fits the bill! This little 3-4 year-old Pekingese (mix?) was found as a stray in a rural area with a horribly matted coat and crawling with fleas. We can only imagine his relief when he ended up at the county dog shelter and was immediately given a good grooming and medication to get rid of those fleas. Now that he’s been shaved, this chilly weather is a bit of a shock for him so he would probably enjoy sporting a nice sweater when out for his walks. Phoenix can be a little reserved at first when meeting new people but this pup is super food-motivated and easily makes friends when humans come bearing treats. The way to this boy’s heart is definitely through his stomach! Once he feels comfortable with someone, he is a real clown and very affectionate. Phoenix has had no accidents in his foster home and loves curling up on his cozy bed in his crate for a nap. He has been fine with his fellow foster dogs as long as they don’t try to eat his dinner. If there are other dogs in his new home, mealtime would need to be closely supervised. Phoenix loved all the attention that came with having his pictures taken–of course, there were lots of treats involved so he made excellent eye contact with the camera! Phoenix weighs about 17 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Phoenix. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
Phoenix-ADOPTED!

Phoenix will be a great addition to someone’s family. He did well with dogs and people. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with him but he was willing to share some kisses with me. He was busy snuggling with another volunteer,.
I had Phoenix overnight. He’s a darling little guy with the funniest expressions along with those big sad eyes. He’s a little hand shy when you put your hands overtop of him so may take a few days to get used to a new home. He likes to sniff around the yard, go for walks with those little legs moving quickly and follow humans around. He gave me no problem going into the crate and even seemed to like it as he’d stay in there sometimes when I had the door open. My male dog doesn’t like other males, so they were separated, but he did meet my female and they just sniffed and then pretty much ignored each other. He hasn’t ventured up or down my stairs and he seems a bit fearful of those. He’s also started by loud noises like my Vitamix but did better the 2nd day so would just need some patience overall while he learns how to fit in to a home environment.
I didn’t work with him today as other volunteers had him out but oh my gosh, what a cutie pie. He’s sort of got a bow legged look and reminds me of a ewok. He seemed very sweet and was enjoying the attention he was getting.
