Astro is an adorable 4 month-old Boxer/Rat Terrier mix pup who came to Canine Lifeline along with his mom Sydney (tri-colored dog in two pics) and littermates Orbit and Spice. This little family was found abandoned in a rural area and made their way to the local shelter. From there, they went into a foster home before making the trip to Canine Lifeline to find themselves great new homes. When the pups arrived here in early December, they were still very thin and scrawny weighing only about 2-3 pounds but with lots of TLC and good food, they have really blossomed in their foster home. Astro weighed 8.2 pounds on 12-27-17 and 17.2 pounds on 2-16-18 so we will be a bit bigger than his 25 pound mom–perhaps in the 35-40 pound range. We suspect papa was a Boxer mix but that’s just a guess of course. When adopting a mixed-breed pup, you must be prepared for just about anything size-wise! Astro has been working on crate-training in his foster home and can go about 4 hours during the day without an accident provided he gets outside shortly after eating or drinking. He loves to play, play, play and then power nap before playing some more! Astro would love to go to a home where there is another dog to play with. He really enjoys spending time at Petco during our adoption events–all people and dogs are just new friends he’s eager to meet! His adoption fee is $350. He’s neutered, on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We both walked and held Astro. He would be such a great dog for a family with kids and even another dog . He loves to play and is so loving !
This little guy has my heart and I’d take him myself if I could have another dog. He’s learning so much and is doing great walking on his leash. He went potty for me right away when we got to the grass so he’s got some knowledge of how potty training works. He loves people, loves playing with other dogs and just needs a family to work with him on how to become a great dog. He also enjoyed cuddling up on the lap of one of the volunteers after a fun, busy day at Petco.
Astro is 100% puppy. He is doing well with puppy pads. He liked to climb the puppy pen. He likes to play with all the other dogs- no matter of their size. He can get rough and needs to be reminded to settle down. He did well on the leash once we got outside to walk. He likes to play tug a war. He is a good cuddler once he settles down. Astro will be a great addition to someone’s family looking for a puppy.
I had Astro as an overnight foster. He’s a great, playful, funny, curious, typical puppy. He loves getting attention and would really love a dog to play with. He seems to adore kids and did very well with my neighbor’s almost 3 yr old daughter. He wanted to kiss her, play with her and chase her around the house. As long as the kids are OK with that, I think he’d do great in a house with young kids.
He picked up walking on a leash very easily and we went for a nice walk. He pottied most of the time outside and the few “accidents” he had inside were either on newspaper or mats of some sort. He seems to be very good at picking up basic commands and understood when he got praise and when he was told no as well.
He loves playing with toys, wrestling, fetch, tug of war and anything that engages him with his family. He’s also a snuggler and likes to bury himself in your lap.
Overnight, he was crated and had NO accidents in his crate for about 8-9 hours. He cried for just a few minutes and then went to sleep like a champ. He actually put himself in the crate earlier in the evening and stayed there for a bit even though the door was open. He likes to graze on his food and sort of made a game out of eating running back and forth to the food and then eating it around my kitchen.
He’s going to make a great dog for a family or an individual who has the time to play with and train him to be a great puppy.
Astro loves to play but when it is “quiet time”, he is an awesome snuggler. He loves to give kisses and was doing much better this week using the puppy pads. He will be a great addition to a family who is looking for a puppy.
I worked with Astro again today. He loved playing tug of war with a rope and climbing on my lap. He’s very playful and would do well with lots of attention and people or dogs to play with.
Astro is a sweet, playful typical puppy. He loves to play tug of war, wrestle with his siblings, snuggle with his siblings and people. He was so much fun to work with today. His brother was adopted and I’m sure he’ll go quickly to a lucky family.
