Bear is a 10 year-old Yorkie or Silky Terrier who was surrendered to a rural county dog shelter when his owner could no longer keep him. That turned out to be a lucky break for Bear as he was living outside in his previous home and came into the shelter extremely matted and with horrible dental disease. He clearly had been neglected for much if not all of his life. Bear was understandably nervous when he first arrived here with us but is feeling so much better now that he has been shaved and his dental disease addressed. Since he’s been with us, Bear has had two dentals with multiple extractions each time. His teeth were so bad that everything could not be completed in one surgery. After recuperating for two weeks, he went into the vet to have the other side of his mouth done and is now feeling like a new man. Bear can still be a little cautious meeting new people and may snap if asked to do something he doesn’t want to do. In his foster home, he gets along well with other small senior dogs. He isn’t a fan of rowdy young dogs and would be fine in his new home as the only dog. Bear will need an owner experienced with fearful dogs who is able to give him the time and space he needs to adjust to his new environment. Bear can be protective of his food with both people and other dogs so needs a quiet home without children. He is definitely a foodie! In his foster home, he eats in his crate and has no problem with his foster mom removing his bowl once he’s done but needs to be left alone while he eats. Bear loves curling up on a cozy blanket in his crate in the sun and does his business quickly when taken outside. He also walks quite well on a leash. This little guy deserves to know what it’s like to live as a pampered pup and we can’t wait to see him get that chance. Bear weighs about 12 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Bear. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Bear is available for adoption to a local Northeast OH home only.
