Bravo is a beautiful 7 year-old Aussie who was found as a stray in a rural area and taken to the local shelter. The shelter quickly discovered that Bravo was blind so it was a mystery as to whether he strayed from his home or was dumped. He is certainly a friendly guy who loves being around people so they suspected the latter might be the case. When he wasn’t claimed at the shelter, Bravo made the trip to Canine Lifeline so he could relax in a foster home while searching for a home that best suits his needs. In spite of his lack of vision, Bravo has adjusted very quickly to life in his foster home. He quickly learns where furniture and doorways are located and is able to maneuver around and through them, respectively. Stairways do need to be gated so he doesn’t fall down stairs. Bravo walks beautifully on a leash and has had excellent manners in his foster home. He is crate-trained and has not had any accidents in his foster home so ought to be able to pick up the house rules quickly in his new home with lots of supervision. Bravo will sit and give paw on command. He’s very friendly with both people and other dogs. He’s currently sharing his foster home with another dog and has done well with her. Having another calm, well-mannered dog in his new home might help him adjust to his new surroundings. Bravo will either need a home with a yard that has a secure aboveground fence or always be kept on leash when outdoors. An invisible fence would not be suitable for him. Bravo weighs about 50 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Bravo. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
Bravo-ADOPTED!

Bravo is a wonderful calm and loving dog.
I have had blind or sight-impaired dogs before, and they always amaze me how quickly they adjust to new surroundings. As the foster or owner, a key is to walk them on leash at a relatively slow pace initially, so they recognize where there are steps or obstacles. For example, when the dog first encounters a step, I just give him or her time to understand there is a step and give them time to move forward.
I had a chance to foster Bravo for a short while after he arrived at Canine Lifeline and within just a couple of days, he understood that there were two steps down from our deck to the patio. He was able to navigate those steps easily. As he became more comfortable in our home, he was already learning to maneuver around furniture. We limited his access initially to a few rooms so his adjustment was not too sudden.
Bravo is a dear soul who probably hasn’t always had an easy time in his life, but he welcomes every gentle touch and kind word. He is an excellent hugger and he really enjoys a full-body massage!
He is truly special.
When we first started fostering Bravo, I was a little apprehensive, not knowing what to expect from a blind dog. But he has really adjusted beautifully. He tends to move at a calm, deliberate pace, and even as we’ve opened more space in our house to him, he has explored cautiously, never knocking into things or hurting himself. He has also been quick to learn, coming when we call his name so I can slip his leash on him. Best of all, he loves to cuddle, and just wants sit on the couch nestled against me or my kids. He is a lovely, sweet-natured dog who will make a wonderful addition to a family!
