Buddy is an 8-9 month-old Cockapoo who was surrendered to an overcrowded county dog shelter by his owner after the landlord apparently said that Buddy had to go. Buddy had likely never been groomed in his life when he came into the shelter and he was one hairy mess. A few of his photos show a long-coated Buddy before his grooming. His coat was very matted and he was very uncomfortable. When he arrived here with us, we found that Buddy does not like to be restrained so he had to be sedated to be groomed and to be examined by the vet. His coat was such a mess that he had to be shaved from head to toe. Buddy looks like a completely different dog now and feels SO much better. Although he’s super-friendly once he gets to know someone, Buddy can be a little skittish and hand-shy in new situations so we do want to place him in a home with adults only. He doesn’t like anyone to grab his collar so may have been treated roughly by his previous owner. Buddy’s a happy and friendly guy as long as he’s doing what he wants to do but he has shown some aggression on occasion when asked to do something he doesn’t want to do. This is out of fear so he will need to be adopted by someone who understands fearful dogs and has experience working with them. Buddy now trusts his foster mom so it just takes some time for him to relax and realize that he isn’t going to be hurt. Buddy gets along well with other dogs so we do want to place him in a home with a calm, confident canine pal who can show him the ropes and help him realize that people can be trusted. Buddy has done well with crate-training in his foster home and should continue that in his new home. He will make a great pal for the person or couple who has the patience to give him the time he needs to adjust to his new surroundings. Buddy weighs about 26 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Buddy. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 72 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
