Meet Cashew, a super-cute and playful 1 year-old terrier mix boy with no tail! He found himself homeless at an overcrowded county dog shelter and was very frightened there. Since making the trip to Canine Lifeline and being in a foster home, he has been relaxing and learning what being a dog is all about. This boy was shy at first, but once he settled in and realized he can trust his human friends, he really lets his personality and playfulness shine. He was quite fearful of being picked up when first arriving at his foster home, but has come a very long way and is definitely more comfortable with that. He would still probably do best with an above ground fenced in yard, for his enjoyment as well! Cashew enjoys horsing around with his foster brother and playing with toys of any kind. He LOVES chasing his kong tennis balls and could play for hours outside if he could. Cashew also enjoys a nylabone and can really keep himself entertained by playing his own little games. This boy loves meal time and is very treat motivated, so he should excel with some training. He has already learned the sit command and is doing extremely well with potty training. Cashew has been going on daily walks throughout the neighborhood with a harness and has been doing great. He gets along well with his foster brother and sister but can get a little protective of his toys when playing inside with other dogs around at times. He can also get vocal if he is left in another room without his human friends- he just loves to be part of the action! Cashew stays in an exercise pen when his foster parents leave the house and barks at first, but usually settles down for a nap in his dog bed. Otherwise, when his foster parents work from home he sleeps the majority of the day. When Cashew is ready to wind down for the evening, he loves to snuggle with his human friends. This boy has done great getting into a routine and will continue to thrive with patience and positive direction in his new home. He is sure to be your best friend for life and make you laugh every day! He deserves a life of happiness and fun moving forward. Cashew weighs about 11 pounds and his adoption fee is $350. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Cashew. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.

Update on Cashew!
This guy has totally settled in at our house. He is such a sweet, playful and happy boy. I recently took him to a small family gathering with about 6 people and he did great. He was a little shy at first, but within 10 minutes he was letting my family hold him and was playing and showing off his toys we brought. I think Cashew is learning that he can trust humans. He is allowing me to pick him up now pretty much anywhere and does not run away from me like he did when he first arrived at our house.
Cashew loves to go on walks in the neighborhood. He gets really excited when he sees his harness come out and he runs to the door to get ready. Also, he does his business very fast when we go outside for potty breaks.
He loves his foster brother and sister, but I think he would do fine as the only dog if he had someone to take him on walks and play. I think he would enjoy play dates with other dogs too. Like his bio states, he can entertain himself for hours playing his own game with a ball, chewing on a nylabone or enjoying a lick mat with some peanut butter. He is a smart guy that would benefit/enjoy some training sessions with his new family.
If you think this dog is cute in his pictures, you have to come meet him in person as he is even more cute! He might be shy when he first meets you, but don’t let that fool you. This is one playful, outgoing pup. He really does make us laugh every single day and is sure to bring a smile to your face too.
I met Cashew at the Pet People event and he was such a good, brave boy! Even though I could tell he was a bit uneasy with being in a busy place with so many people, he remained calm and sweet the entire time! He mingled well with dogs and people and it such a uniquely cute dog!
Update on Cashew in his foster home:
This guy is really starting to let his personality shine now that he is comfortable at our home. He LOVES to play with Kong tennis balls outside. He will chase them around if you throw them or he can entertain himself with his own little game. He would probably play for hours if you’d let him. I think his first favorite thing is his ball, but a close second are his treats and food. This boy loves to eat! He also really enjoys wresting around and chasing his foster brother (17lb. Min Pin).
He has been practicing walking with a harness on a leash in our neighborhood and he has really surprised us with how well he is doing. He is already doing great, but within another week or so, I bet he will be a pro! He loves to sniff around and explore. He doesn’t seem bothered by the cars going by at all, but not sure how he would react near a busy street.
One thing Cashew is not too fond of is being left alone in another room when we are home. When he makes friends with you, he wants to be around you all the time! He has been staying in his pen when we leave for small periods of time and he will bark for the first little while after we leave (we check on the doggy camera).
He is getting much better being picked up and he really does like to cuddle when he is invited up on the couch. Cashew makes us laugh every single day and we just love him. Someone will be so lucky to have this sweet boy as part of their family.
I met Cashew at the Hudson Pet people adoption event February 11th and what a SWEETHEART. He is still nervous and a bit frightened but when held and cuddled by numerous people he melted into their arms. If you are interested in this sweet soul don’t wait…….someone is going to find him irresistible very soon!
I was so lucky to meet Cashew today. What a sweetheart! He started off a bit timid but allowed me to pick him up without any complaint. He seems to gain trust pretty quickly and before I knew it he was so relaxed in my arms as he quietly observed the comings and goings of potential new friends. He was very good on a short walk with me and when speaking to him, he turned to pay attention, even though there were so many yummy smells and distractions outside. While a bit timid when the bigger dogs came to visit, he kept his good manners and acted the perfect gentleman. Such an amazing cutie.
What a sweet and happy dog Cashew is! We have been fostering him for almost a week now and he has settled in at our home great. We have so much to say about this little guy.
He has picked up the routine with his foster brother and sister very quick. For a little guy, he is actually very brave. He learned how to go down the hardwood stairs (which most dogs can be very scared of if they have never used) to get to the door for potty on the first day he was with us! Now he is zooming up and down the stairs for bathroom breaks. He has been a quick learner, especially following around his foster siblings.
Cashew loves to chase his foster brother around in the fenced in yard or just zoom around on his own chasing a ball. He also loves toys of all kinds. Although Cashew is still not a fan of being picked up, he is slowly getting more used to it each day. When we invite him up on the couch to watch tv with us, he loves to be pet and get a neck scratch. He seems to be much less fearful of being picked up/pet when he is already at the same level of his human friends.
This guy loves to be part of a pack and prefers to be with his foster parents/siblings wherever we go. I think he really enjoys having another dog around that likes to play, so that would be high up on his priority list. It has also given him the confidence to do things he may not without another dog showing him the ropes.
He had a few accidents when he was settling in at our house, but is doing great otherwise. He usually does his business quick when we head outside. Cashew sleeps in our bedroom in a pen as he is not a big fan of being left alone when he knows someone is home. Otherwise, he has been doing fine left in a play pen when we go to work or run errands. If we work from home, he sleeps most of the day in his dog bed.
It is amazing to watch him learn and transform into a more confident dog little by little each day. He will still need someone patient as it takes him a moment to trust humans. Once you gain his trust, you’ve got a best friend who wants to be around you all the time. We hope to start working with him on a leash soon and I will give more updates as we have him!
