Dandy is a shy but very sweet 1 year-old Beagle who was one of 19 Beagles kept as hunting dogs on a farm in KY. The owner recently contacted a local rescue for help as he could no longer care for them. That rescue reached out to us along with several others and all the dogs were able to move off the property into better lives. Four of them, including Dandy, came to Canine Lifeline. While Dandy doesn’t have a mean bone is his body, he’s very timid when meeting new people and in new situations. You can tell he wants to trust but is hesitant to do so. He’s been in his foster home for a couple of weeks now and is doing a little bit better each day. Dandy is more shy and nervous when he’s outside but loves to run and play with his fellow rescue Beagles. He would likely be most comfortable with another canine buddy in his new home so he can follow that dog’s lead. Dandy will a new family who can give him the time and space he needs to adjust to his new home. He will also need a yard with a secure aboveground fence to keep him safe at home. Dandy has done well with crate-training in his foster home and will need to continue that in his adoptive home. He loves curling up a blanket in his crate for a cozy nap and is beginning to see that indoor living is certainly more fun than bunking in a dog house on the end of a chain. Walking on a leash is still scary for Dandy but with time, he’ll start realizing how much fun it is to go around his new neighborhood and check out all the great scents. Since Dandy and his buddies lived in a rural area, suburban living will continue to be a steep learning curve for him as he gets comfortable with the sights and sounds of a more populated area. We do want to place Dandy in a quiet neighborhood to keep the scary new things to a minimum. It’s going to be so rewarding for his new family to watch this sweet boy blossom into a fun-loving pup as he settles into his new home and life.  Dandy weighs about 17 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Dandy. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under the age of 7 years. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
