This big sweet, lovable boy is Dexter, a 3 year-old who looks like a mix of St. Bernard and American Bulldog. Dexter found himself homeless after his family could no longer care for him. We were told that he was adopted by that family as a puppy and lived indoors for 8 months until they had a baby. At that time, Dexter was relegated to living outside. Fortunately, they finally realized (after 2 years outdoors) that this was not a good life for Dexter so surrendered him to the local shelter so he could find a warm, cozy indoor home and loving family. Dexter has been a wonderful boy since arriving here with us to work on finding the perfect new home. He acts like a big overgrown puppy and is very playful. He loves playing tug with toys but can be a little rough and mouthy when playing so wouldn’t be a good match for children. Dexter will sit nicely for a treat and takes treats very gently for a big guy. He also walks quite nicely on a leash for a large dog, has excellent crate manners, and should be able to master the housetraining rules quickly in his new home with some positive direction on the part of his new family. Dexter gets along well with other dogs so might enjoy having a canine buddy in his new home too. He had a much needed bath when he arrived here and enjoyed all the attention that came with it. Dexter looks forward to living the rest of his life as a treasured family member and we can’t wait to see him get that chance. Dexter weighs about 75 pounds and his adoption fee is $325. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Dexter. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
Dexter-ADOPTED!

I was the lucky volunteer who gave Dexter his bath shortly after he arrived at Canine Lifeline. It was clear that he had not been bathed for a very long time. His coat was badly discolored and full of dirt and debris. Although his bath consisted of two rounds of shampoo and rinses, this sweet dog could not have been more gentle and patient. He very much enjoyed being massaged with the shampoo. He even enjoyed being towel-dried. He seemed to appreciate all the attention and affection he was being shown.
Dexter is a wonderful, sweet dog who has endured a lot of isolation and discomfort in his life but he remains a kind soul. He deserves to finally have a forever home where he will really know the comfort and security of being a truly LOVED dog.
