We think we just might have found the perfect dog! Dorie is a 1.5 year-old Boxer/Pittie mix spayed female who came into an overcrowded county dog shelter last May with an injury to her hips. Dory was fostered by a shelter staff member for a number of months until she made the trip to Canine Lifeline in November to have her hips evaluated by our vet. X-rays revealed that Dory needed double FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery to repair her old, likely hit-by-car, injury to both hips. She had surgery in December and has made a remarkable recovery in her foster home with Canine Lifeline. She is now able to maneuver much more easily and is going to be able to live a much more comfortable life now that she’s had this surgery. The vet has given her the all clear to allow her to play with other dogs and run as much as she’d like. She is now able to have lots of fun and is ready to find a great new family to love. Dorie has an outstanding disposition. She has gotten along very well with the other dogs in her foster home and she seems to like everyone she meets – human and canine. In her previous foster home, Dorie lived with cats and was wonderful with them. She has done very well with crate training and appears to be housetrained (although we cannot guarantee that she won’t have an accident in her new home as she gets used to the routine). She has shown no aggression at all even with regard to food or toys. Dorie knows the “sit” command and is very eager to please. Since she LOVES treats, she should be a quick learner with any training efforts. She walks well on a leash although she will sometimes pull when she sees something that interests her. This gem of a dog is going to make an outstanding companion for one very lucky person or family. Dorie weighs about 35 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Dorie. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.  Dorie’s hip surgery cost about $1400. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation to help with her expenses, please visit our website at to make an online donation or send a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125.
