Duchess is a gorgeous 2 year-old Great Pyrenees mix spayed female who was surrendered to a county dog shelter by her owner who said she was not suited for farm life. Unfortunately, Duchess had killed some chickens and a baby goat so finds herself looking for a home where she won’t be living with farm animals. In addition to being a real beauty, Duchess absolutely LOVES people. True to her breed, she loves giving her human friends gentle hugs but is beginning to learn that all good things come to dogs who keep four paws on the ground. Duchess will sit nicely for a treat and may know some other commands that we haven’t discovered yet. She’s been very gentle when accepting treats from her human friends. Duchess gets along well with other dogs and often assumes a play bow when meeting a new dog. She may be a little protective of her food around other dogs so mealtime would need to be closely monitored should there be another dog in her new home. Also, if there’s another dog in her new home, we think she would do best with a medium to large neutered male, rather than a small dog or another female. Duchess met the resident kitty at the vet clinic and seemed friendly with her but given her history, we think she would do best in a cat-free home. Duchess has wonderful leash manners and is a joy to take out for a walk. She has also done well with crate-training in her foster home and may be housetrained too although we can’t guarantee it. This girl needs a home with a yard that has a secure aboveground fence (no invisible fence). Duchess has a beautiful long coat which is going to require regular grooming to keep her looking and feeling her best. Duchess weighs about 70 pounds and her adoption fee is $350. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Duchess. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
