Ducky is a bright-eyed and alert Chihuahua mix male who counts his lucky stars everyday. This little guy who’s estimated to be about 10 years-old came into a county dog shelter as an emaciated stray. He clearly wouldn’t have been able to survive much longer on his own as he was literally just skin and bones. To add insult to injury, Ducky tested positive for heartworms at the shelter making it impossible for him to find a new home. The shelter wanted to give this boy a chance so contacted us for help with him. Ducky made the trip to us to get the lifesaving treatment that he needed. When Ducky arrived here with us in December 2017, he weighed about 7 pounds and it was painful to look at him as he was so thin. His breath was probably the worst we had ever experienced as his teeth were in horrible shape. Fast forward 6 months to July 2018 and Ducky is like a new dog! He now weighs about 10 pounds and is a handsome, healthy boy. He went through heartworm treatment with us in January and just retested negative so is now heartworm-free! He had major dental work and lost the majority of his teeth to decay but the few remaining are in great shape. Ducky eats small breed kibble like a champ so doesn’t need to be on canned food. Ducky gets along very well with other dogs so would be fine with a canine pal or two in his new home. At outdoor adoption events this summer, Ducky kept pace with dogs much younger than he is and would love to go on daily walks with his new family. He has done well in his crate provided that he can go out every four hours or so during the day. He would love to have humans who could spend lots of time with him. Ducky’s got plenty of spunk in spite of all he’s been through and is hoping someone will fall for him and welcome him into his new home soon. His adoption fee is $150. He’s neutered, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Ducky. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 72 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
