Fritz is an adorable 6 month-old pup who looks like he might be a mix of Lab (short coat) and Shepherd (big ears!). He came to us from a local county dog shelter with an injured leg. X-rays revealed that his back right leg was broken in several places. Given the length of time since the initial breaks and the severity of the injury, the decision was made to amputate his leg since he wasn’t able to use it at all. Fritz had his surgery on August 8 and is recovering incredibly well in his foster home. This is one smart pup! He picks up new routines very quickly–no accidents in his crate and he pees and poops immediately when he goes outside. Fritz gets along well with other dogs so would enjoy having a playful companion dog in his new home. He is working on his leash manners and having 3 legs certainly isn’t slowing him down. Fritz is a very friendly, affectionate, outgoing pup who is going to make an outstanding companion for one very lucky person or family. He currently weighs about 29 pounds and we expect he will be about 45-50 pounds when full-grown. His adoption fee is $200. Fritz is neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. I am brought home Fritz yesterday to foster. So far he has been a wonderful dog. He has no issues with my other dog or the cats. He played very well with my neighbors two little children. He is very well mannered. He does very well in the car. He is a natural at “fetch”. He is enjoying being a puppy. He would make a great addition to anyone’s family. We love him already.
When his photos were recently taken, I had an opportunity to spend some time with this cute pup. It is difficult to imagine what this pup has been through with multiple painful breaks in his one leg that were never treated. Despite all the pain and hardships he has experienced in his young life, he is a happy, joyful dog.
Fritz has quickly learned to maneuver without his one rear leg and he is excited to find a loving home of his own where he can play and take walks around the neighborhood. After playtime, he is also very happy to cuddle and be hugged.
This young dog will need some training since he has never had anyone in his life who cared enough to provide such guidance, but with some training and practice he would be a wonderful addition to an active family.
