This sweet lady is Gwen, a 3-4 year-old Black Lab mix female whose future was looking grim when she came into a rural county dog shelter in late March and tested positive for heartworms there. She was on the euthanasia list there when the shelter reached out to us for help with her. Gwen made the trip to Canine Lifeline in April and went through lifesaving heartworm treatment with us in May. She did very well with her treatment and now is ready to make a fresh start with a new family and put her sad past behind her. Gwen is a very sweet dog who loves all people and other dogs that she meets. It doesn’t seem that she’s ever met a stranger. Gwen has excellent crate manners and is likely to be housetrained too. She also loves to go for a walk but her most favorite time of the day is mealtime. She gets so excited when it’s time for breakfast or dinner and jumps in the air with a little dance of excitement. Gwen is very friendly and affectionate with her human friends and is going to make a great companion for one very lucky person or family. Gwen weighs about 48 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Gwen. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 72 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.

Gwen’s heartworm treatment cost about $750. If you’d like to make a donation to help with her care, please do so on our website at or by sending a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125. Thank you from Gwen and Canine Lifeline!
