Jack is a very friendly and sociable 8 year-old Rat Terrier mix neutered male who has spent his entire life, until recently, living outdoors in a pen with a doghouse. He was surrendered to a shelter by his owner who was in poor health and unable to provide for him any longer. We’re so glad that outdoor life is a thing of the past for Jack as he is completely embracing the comforts of home. Better late than never Jack! This little guy is so sweet and has been the perfect gentleman in his foster home. He will be so happy just to be able to enjoy the simple things in life that we all take for granted—a comfy bed, good food, and someone to snuggle with. In spite of living outdoors, Jack has been well-fed so would benefit from daily walks around the block to shed a few of those extra pounds. He’s looking forward to exploring his new neighborhood and having some fun adventures with his new family. Since Jack has lived in a rural area, he would be most comfortable living in a quiet neighborhood as busy urban or suburban environments with lots of noise and busy streets would be frightening for him. A nice backyard with a secure aboveground fence would be ideal for Jack so he would have a little freedom to explore but still stay safe at home. Jack is dog-friendly so might be fine living in a home with a calm canine buddy. Jack weighs about 22 pounds but is a bit chubby and could stand to lose a few pounds to reach his ideal weight. His adoption fee is $150. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized.
