Libby is a very kind and loving 2 year-old Lab mix female who came to us in March from an overcrowded county dog shelter. She came into the shelter as a pregnant stray and was scheduled to go to another rescue until it was discovered that she was heartworm positive. The other rescue backed out to the expense of heartworm treatment so Libby was unfortunately on the shelter’s euthanasia list. Knowing that we try to help as many heartworm dogs as possible, the shelter reached out to us for help with her. Libby made the trip to Canine Lifeline on March 26 and two days later gave birth to four pups. She did an excellent job rasing her pups and saw them all off to their permanent homes. Once the pups were weaned, Libby was spayed and then was able to go through heartworm treatment in June. She did very well with her treatment and is now ready to find herself a wonderful home of her very own. Libby has done well with the other dogs in her foster home although it does take her a little time to warm up to a new dog. If there’s another dog in her new home, she might do best with a calm neutered male. Libby has had excellent house manners in her foster home. She was not crated when she was caring for her pups and she has continued without a crate while she went through heartworm treatment. She has been very quiet indoors with no accidents and no chewing of things she isn’t supposed to have. She is around other dogs though so we can’t be sure how she would do if she were the only dog in the home. Libby walks nicely on a leash and is really looking forward to living the life of a pampered pup in her new home. Libby weighs about 43 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Libby. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 72 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.

Libby’s heartworm treatment cost about $750. If you’d like to make a donation to help with her care, please do so on our website at or by sending a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125. Thank you from Libby and Canine Lifeline!
