Maggie

Maggie is a gorgeous 5 year-old English Shepherd mix female who was turned into an overcrowded county dog shelter by her family who said she was not good with cats and was also prone to chasing cattle. She came to Canine Lifeline to enjoy life in a cat- and cattle-free foster home while she searched for a permanent new home. Maggie’s photos were taken shortly after she arrived and before she visited the groomer. Her long thick coat was quite matted and it was apparent that she hadn’t been groomed in some time. The groomer opted to shave Maggie to allow her coat to regrow so she now has a short haircut with the exception of her fluffy tail. Surprisingly, Maggie jumped right up on the grooming table and was very cooperative during the whole process. She didn’t even mind the blow dryer so she clearly had a history of being groomed in the past. Maggie is a very sweet dog who would probably enjoy being the only dog in the home. She gets along well with mild-mannered calm dogs who leave her alone but doesn’t enjoy rowdy dogs who jump on her and try to get her to play. She has excellent crate manners although she’s not fond of her crate, she has gotten used to it in her foster home as that is where she eats her meals. Maggie might be housetrained too although we can’t guarantee it. She walks beautifully on a leash and is going to make a very devoted companion for someone who wants a big dog to love. She also will sit for a treat and may know some other commands that we haven’t discovered yet. Maggie is very food-motivated and excellent for photos as she kept her eyes glued on the yummy treats we ere enticing her with. She was very patient and agreeable with us as we asked her to wear many accessories and she even tolerated the glasses! Maggie weighs about 64 pounds and her adoption fee is $250. She’s spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized.
