Max is a handsome 2 year-old Boxer/Lab mix male who is eager to make a fresh start in a new home. He was living his life on a short chain when his owner decided to surrender him to a shelter. That was good news for Max as he now has the opportunity to live life as a treasured family member. Max is a little shy meeting new people and has a lot of new experiences in front of him as he gets used to life off of a chain. Once he’s comfortable with someone, his inner puppy emerges and he loves to hug and snuggle with his human friends. He has done well with crate-training in his foster home and has been working on his leash skills as well although he has more work in front of him in that area. A harness will make it easier to work with him as he hones his leash manners. Max likes other dogs so would do well in a home with a canine buddy to show him the ropes. He will need a yard with a secure aboveground fence so he doesn’t have to be tied up again. In spite of the sad life he’s led to date, Max is eager to put the past behind him and start enjoying lots of new adventures. With a kind and patient owner, Max is sure to blossom into an outstanding canine companion. Max weighs about 53 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Max. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. Please note that we don’t place our dogs in homes with children under 7 years of age. We correspond via email so please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
Max-ADOPTED!

I had the pleasure of spending time with Max today. This poor dog spent his life on the end of a short chain. Despite his rough life he kept hugging me and wanted to be pet and loved. He was giving me kisses in return. He spent some time running around with some canine friends. He is not so sure how to play with the really rowdy ones. Everything is new for him. He had his leash on and one of his canine pals decided to grab his leash and walk him all around the room and he just went along with it. Max pulls on the leash and will need some training on his walking skills. He is such a nice boy and would love someone to snuggle with.
It would be hard for anyone to imagine how difficult this dog’s life had been – living every minute at the end of a short chain. We don’t know if he was ever shown any kindness. We don’t even know if he ever had a chance to walk or lie in the grass.
We do know that, despite the terrible life he had lived, he’s a gentle dog who wants to trust others. Although he may be a little timid when first meeting someone, he responds well to a kind word or gentle touch. He seems to want to learn and explore this new world he had never known.
Max is a good-sized dog who needs more practice with leash walking but a good harness should be helpful during walks.
This guy needs and deserves to finally know what it is to be a LOVED dog.
