Newton is a sweet but very shy little 3 year-old Chihuahua/Doxie mix neutered male who was an owner surrender at an overcrowded county dog shelter along with 8 of his little buddies. Four of them, along with Newton, made the trip to Canine Lifeline so they could relax in foster homes while searching for permanent new homes. It is likely that these dogs had very little human contact in their previous home. While they’re kind and gentle dogs, it does take them awhile to trust someone new and relax in a new environment. Newton has been in a new foster home with other small dogs for about a month and is just beginning to feel comfortable there. Newton will need to be adopted into a home where he will have some small canine buddies as well as a yard with a secure aboveground fence. He will need a quiet, kid-free environment with mature adopters who have the patience to give him the time and space he needs to feel comfortable in new surroundings. Once Newton truly feels at home, he is going to make an outstanding little buddy for his new family. Newton weighs about 11 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea and tick preventative, and microchipped. Since coming to Canine Lifeline, Newton has had a dental cleaning with a few extractions so now is feeling so much better. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized.
