Percy is a very handsome 1 year-old Collie/Spaniel mix male with gorgeous markings and a friendly disposition. He was surrendered to a county dog shelter after his owner died and no one in the family was prepared to take him on. Percy was really wound up when he first came to us in February but he has since settled down nicely and, as you can see in his video, does very well on a leash. We have found that Percy is aggressive with most other dogs, especially those about his size. He did meet little Ziggy recently and seemed fine meeting him as you can see in his video. He seems to do better meeting small dogs (less than 20 pounds) but the best situation for him would be in a home as an only dog. Percy would not do well in an urban or suburban environment where he would be meeting new dogs on a daily basis. The ideal home for him is in the country where he could have a large fenced yard to play in and no other dogs. A secure aboveground fenced yard would be required if there are close neighbors and other dogs in the vicinity.
Percy met the resident kitties at the vet clinic and seemed respectful if not a little bit afraid of them. Percy has been friendly with all people that he’s met so would do great with someone who wants to lavish all of their time and attention on one dog. In March, he had a trip to the groomer for what was likely the first bath of his life and he did very well for both the bathing and drying that followed. Percy has been working on crate-training in his foster home and has done very well with that. He should be able to pick up the housetraining rules quickly in his new home. Percy is looking forward to finding his forever home where he can enjoy lots of walks, hikes, jogs, as well as loads of adventures with his new family. Percy weighs about 43 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped.
All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Percy. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 72 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
I enjoyed seeing you again, Percy, but I do wish you would find your forever home. You deserve it! We got to walk together and you did pretty good, just a little pulling. I’m not sure you like every single dog that gets in your face (I mean, who would?!?) But, I only noticed a little uncomfortable-ness when we were all posed for our picture. Walking together, you seemed fine. I think you are such a good looking guy! Hoping someone will make you their own soon!
Walked with Percy today on our Mutt Mingle walk at Sunny Lake Park. He walked well on the leash and seemed to enjoy the walk. He did react some to other dogs who passed us. We’ll have to remember to bring water on the walk because he was very thirsty at the end of our walk and drank almost the whole bowl of water! He is a big boy who is good with people but not always so good with other dogs.
Percy is a happy boy who loves to go for walks. He can pull on the leash, especially when he’s excited at the beginning of a walk. He knows the sit command and is food motivated, so should be able to learn more commands with practice. He is a little skittish of traffic noises on our walks…especially when big trucks go by. He loves attention from his human friends!
