Whoever coined the phrase “cute as a bug’s ear” would have to agree that Phoenix more than fits the bill! This little 3-4 year-old Pekingese (mix?) was found as a stray in a rural area with a horribly matted coat and crawling with fleas. We can only imagine his relief when he ended up at the county dog shelter and was immediately given a good grooming and medication to get rid of those fleas. Now that he’s been shaved, this chilly weather is a bit of a shock for him so he would probably enjoy sporting a nice sweater when out for his walks. Phoenix can be a little reserved at first when meeting new people but this pup is super food-motivated and easily makes friends when humans come bearing treats. The way to this boy’s heart is definitely through his stomach! Once he feels comfortable with someone, he is a real clown and very affectionate. Phoenix has had no accidents in his foster home and loves curling up on his cozy bed in his crate for a nap. He has been fine with his fellow foster dogs as long as they don’t try to eat his dinner. If there are other dogs in his new home, mealtime would need to be closely supervised. Phoenix loved all the attention that came with having his pictures taken–of course, there were lots of treats involved so he made excellent eye contact with the camera! Phoenix weighs about 17 pounds and his adoption fee is $250. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations including bivalent canine influenza, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Phoenix. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
