Rex is a very handsome 3 year-old Great Pyrenees/Cattledog mix male who came to us from a rural county dog shelter. Several months prior to entering the shelter, he had shown up on someone’s doorstep in a rural area and lived there for a couple of months before the property owners decided they had too many dogs and Rex had to go. He has double dewclaws on his back paws characteristic of the Great Pyr breed but is a great size at only about 45 pounds. Once here with us, we found that Rex had congenital hip dysplasia with one side being significantly worse than the other. Rex had femoral head ostectomy surgery in mid-April to repair one of his hip sockets and has been enjoying life in a foster home since then. Rex gets along well with other dogs and can run and play with the best of them now. He is under no exercise restrictions and the more he can do to strengthen his leg, the better. Lots of leash walking in his new home would be ideal. Rex can be a little protective of his food around other dogs at mealtime so if there are other dogs in his new home, mealtime would need to be managed. In his foster home, he eats in his crate and does well with that. Rex has excellent crate manners so should pick up the housetraining routine quickly in his new home. He has met kitties at the vet clinic and seemed fine with them so would likely be able to live in a home with cats. This boy is looking forward to an active and full life with his new family. He weighs about 45 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email if you’re interested in Rex. An approved application is required before we schedule meets with any of our dogs. We have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Rex’s hip surgery cost about $900 so if you’d like to make a donation to help with his medical expenses so that we may save another dog like Rex in the future, please visit our website at to make an online donation or send a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125. Thanks from Rex and Canine Lifeline!
